2021 - CANCELLED STATEMENT

2021 - CANCELLED STATEMENT

REBELLION 2021 – POSTPONED

This time last year we were forced to make the heart-breaking decision to cancel Rebellion. A year on and we are absolutely devastated to confirm that yet again we are not able to go ahead on our advertised dates. Despite the intention, desire and willingness of ourselves, the venue, the bands and the local businesses for this year to go ahead, it has become increasingly clear that due to circumstances beyond our control, we can’t.

We’ve been open and transparent with you throughout this pandemic and have been humbled by the responses to our posts. We were hopeful (but cautious) about this year but require a few essential things to be confirmed for us to start putting the event on, and in all honesty, we’re just not getting the information that we need to proceed. The feeling is that music festivals are being ‘timed out’. No one is saying we CAN’T go ahead, but nothing is in place yet than means we CAN either. That is why the last few weeks have seen many many independent festivals take the tough decision to cancel and we know there are many more that will soon be making their announcements too.

This is a long post as we always want to communicate as much detail to our Rebellion family as possible. But if you want the punchline, Rebellion 2021 has been moved to 2022. Keep hold of your tickets. Both 2020 and 2021 tickets will roll over to 2022. You do not have to do anything. Just turn up next year with a valid ticket from 2020 / 2021 or 2022. For those of you wanting a refund, visit our website where full details are published. All day tickets will be refunded automatically.

REBELLION 2022 is 4th – 7th August. So put that in your diary! We’ve already confirmed some surprise headliners plus reconfirmed a bunch that were due to play this year and we also have some exciting news about a new outdoor area. Keep reading for more info!

Don’t get rid of your hotel or B&B bookings for this year just yet as we are hoping that we can stage some kind of scaled back event this year. Read on…..

NO INSURANCE

The main factor in making the decision to postpone again is the fact that we have been unable to secure insurance for this year’s event.

Despite continuous calls from our industry over the past six months, the Government have refused to provide us with protection via a Government-backed insurance scheme. They clearly do not believe in their own roadmap, or certainly not where live music is concerned. After much publicity surrounding the UK Governments announcement that (subject to criteria being met), life would return to normal after June 21st with no restrictions, we were all led to believe that a summer of events would be possible. If this is true, then such a scheme would cost the Government next to nothing as no-one would be making a claim! The fact that they have yet to offer such a scheme indicates that there is still uncertainty regarding festivals being able to proceed.

If the last year has taught us anything, it’s that nothing is certain, and things can change at the 11th hour. The roadmap could change, additional restrictions could be introduced at any time or there could be local lockdowns. We accept this. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. However, without COVID cancellation insurance in place it’s simply too much of a risk and could spell the end of Rebellion forever if we were on site, building stages and then told we couldn’t go ahead.

Not having insurance is too much of a gamble. We might as well flip a coin and we are not prepared to do that to ourselves or our community.

NO GUIDELINES ON ENTRY

Insurance aside, there are several other issues. As of today, we still don’t know what we have to do in order to legally operate an event of this size. There are rumours of getting covid tests on site, having them in advance, vaccine passports, reduced attendances, social distancing etc etc. But equally there could be no restrictions. But that’s too vague this late in the day for us to start planning things operationally. There are currently test events and pilot schemes running. The outcome of those will determine what we must put in place. All these schemes have some form of Lateral Flow Testing in place before entrance is allowed. So, it’s fair to assume that will form part of the criteria for entering events. The problem for REBELLION is that unlike a festival in a field where you pitch up and stay for 4 days, we are based in a highly populated town centre and our event allows re-entry. As much as we love the Winter Gardens, we can’t keep everyone on site for 14 hours a day with no re-entry! Therefore a negative test is pointless if everyone is then in / out and mixing with non-festival attendees in bars / restaurants etc.

So on balance, we are not going to be able to return to a full capacity, non restricted, re-entry event this year. We are still planning our event but ensuring the date is moved accordingly so that it will finally be business as usual.

NO FREEDOM OF TRAVEL

Further, the Rebellion family is GLOBAL. Around a third of people that attend are from overseas. With travel restrictions still an issue, we are aware that many people will not be able to attend and therefore refunding a third of all tickets would put us in an extremely difficult position if we then had the same costs in staging the event. We think it’s best to stage a full scale Rebellion at a time where we can host ALL our ticket holders.

NO TOURING BANDS

Finally, the last week has seen many agents and bands from overseas pull their European tours and reschedule them for 2022. So it wouldn’t be the festival we wanted to stage anyway.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Whilst we were desperate for Rebellion to take place this year, we are also mindful that we bring thousands of people to a residential area and until the data on mass gatherings is complete, we have a social responsibility to Blackpool, the town and its residents to ensure that our event is not a cause for any increase in the disease. We were hopeful that with the vaccine programme and the test events there would be clarification that an indoor event such as ours would be safe. But we will not get that report until the middle of June by which time it will be too late to put on a festival of this size anyway.

TICKET INFO

We’re now coming off the back of 2 years of cancellations and 2 years of operational costs. Last time over 95% of you rolled your tickets over and that is why we’re still here. We were humbled and incredibly grateful. We love our Rebellion family and we know you love Rebellion too. There’s been some tough times for many of us and we understand that not everyone will be in a position to roll over again. However, if you can and if we can minimise refunds then you are making a massive difference to YOUR event.

For those of you that neither want to come next year or are not in a position financially to support us then of course REFUNDS are available for both 2020 and 2021 ticket holders, and the information regarding how that works can be found in detail on our WEBSITE – www.rebellionfestivals.com.

YOUR ROLLED OVER TICKETS ARE SAFE

The good news is that despite the Treasury blocking the insurance scheme, the Department of Culture, Media & Sport have been doing their bit to support the arts and recently allocated grants and loans and our bid was successful. Therefore, whilst we’re hanging on by the skin of our teeth having cancelled 2 years running, we are SAFE for the time being and can guarantee a return to Blackpool in 2022. That funding is paying our deposits so we’re ready to go when we can truly open up again. With no other sponsorship or backers, the only other funding that enables us to put on the festival is ticket sales. Your support is essential.

Tickets for 2022 will go on sale on Monday August 9th.

THE FUTURE

We’ve already booked a couple of exciting NEW headliners for 2022 and are in the process of re-booking many of the bands from this and last years event. Please be patient. It’s a long process and we’ll announce the first batch in the coming weeks.

The RETURN OF REBELLION 2022 is going to be massive! The exciting news is the council have agreed for us to have the area of the promenade right in front of Blackpool Tower (Tower Headland, on the ‘comedy carpet’). This is an amazing space for an outdoor stage. A straight walk down from the Winter Gardens. We can double our capacity with this area and have some fantastic plans to make both sites amazing. Of course, you’re also getting in at 2020 and 2021 prices if you keep your tickets!

WE’RE TRULY SORRY

We know that this news will disappoint so many of you and trust us, we’re as gutted as you are. We don’t do anything else. This is our life. We’re also gutted for all our crew, the hoteliers and B&B owners, the bands, the Winter Gardens and everyone that benefits from Rebellion each year.

We also know that many of you will have seen this as inevitable. There’s always so much opinion on the internet but we’re blessed with a supportive crowd who generally ‘get it’ and understand that all we want to do is put on a punk show and give everyone a good time. So whilst we’re sure there’s going to be a deluge of comments, please go easy on us. We’ve got the task of managing this postponement now and it’s a going to be draining, so please forgive us if we’re not responding to individual comments.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you’ve got a 2020 or 2021 ticket, KEEP IT SAFE. That will get you in to 2022. It’s going to be the BEST. YEAR. EVER!

If you’ve got a 2020 or 2021 ticket and don’t want to come / can’t come to 2022 then you can apply for a refund from your point of purchase. Full details are on our website under the news item REFUND POLICY.

A BIT OF HOPE…..

We’re sure they’ll be a summer of sporting events, some larger events and smaller gigs with reduced capacity but sadly for the independent festival circuit there’s too many barriers for us to go ahead and stage the festival as normal. Time is also against us.

However, many of us will be in Blackpool regardless as hotels etc are booked. So depending on the guidelines, it may be possible to stage something last minute. We are awaiting confirmation on how entry would have to work and any restrictions we’d have to adhere to. This would be a completely separate ticketed event, just putting on something for those that coming regardless.  We will of course let you know in due course if this happens.

For now, all we ask is that you all remain safe and healthy and we hope to see as many of you as possible in 2022. Your support as ever is appreciated and never taken for granted. We love you.

Team Rebellion xx

2021 - UPDATE *Feb*

2021 - UPDATE *Feb*

REBELLION 2021 – AN UPDATE

Further to the governments announcement that all ‘normal life’ with ‘no restrictions’ is expected to start on June 21st, we thought we’d update you with where we currently stand on this and perhaps shed some light on what is actually happening behind the scenes and what it means in the real world for events like ours.

Firstly, we’re hopeful that with the government publishing timelines it indicates that there’s finally a chance for live music to start again. We know bands, crew, fans and venues are excited to get back to doing what we love and are passionate about. However, we’re mindful that these are guidelines that are dependent on achieving things at stages before then and that as we’ve seen over the last year (especially at Christmas) things can change at the 11th hour. However, like a lot of live events we are now optimistic that something can take place.

To that end it’s all systems go at Rebellion HQ and we’re continuing to put plans in place for our usual event alongside a number of contingency plans. Unlike other events however that are  stating they’re ‘definitely’ happening etc we are proceeding cautiously and wanted to let you all know the truth about what is happening in our sector as some of the reports we’ve seen online and in the news are misleading.

Whilst there’s some guidelines for indoor gigs and capacity etc already published, there’s no indication yet on what format festivals will have to follow in order to be allowed to open. The government are running a programme of consultation and pilot events in March and April called the EVENTS RESEARCH PROGRAMME which will look at various options and they will make a decision on how events like ours will be allowed to go ahead. These results are expected in May.

There may well be ‘no restrictions’ as hinted at but it’s far more likely that there will be some form of safety controls imposed. These could take a number of formats. They could insist on Covid Tests (Lateral Flow Tests) on entry to venues, vaccine passports, an aviation model whereby you arrive at the event having proof of a negative test prior to arrival etc etc. Until we know what we are legally obliged to do, it’s impossible for us to tell you what sort of format Rebellion will run in. Hence we’re working with the Winter Gardens for one scenario and working with the council for an alternative outdoor scenario or a mixture of the two.

We’ve seen a lot of speculation online and a lot of comments regarding us and other festivals. We’d urge you all to just bear with us and trust that we will do what is best for the future of Rebellion and the safety of everyone. Not all festivals are the same and all come with their own challenges. For every fest that is confirming they’re going ahead, there’s another that is rolling over for another year when there will hopefully be more certainty. Rebellion is UNIQUE in that we’re the only festival in the UK that is multistage (7), multiple days (4), over 350 artists, based in a heavily populated urban centre and crucially INDOORS. Plus we allow re-entry. Testing on the door of a nightclub and staying in one place all night or testing on arrival to a field before pitching your tent for a festival, is vastly different to our set up, with people nipping back to their B&Bs and popping to the pub and mixing with the general public.

So we really need to see what the guidelines are going to be so we can make a call on how to run it.

We appreciate that for every person keen to come (and if last year is anything to go by will be going to Blackpool regardless) there are many that either won’t want to come or that can’t attend due to travel restrictions imposed by other countries. We’re also aware that the UK is way ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to vaccinations. In reality there will be some bands that will have to postpone until 2022 due to these things. However, line – up is not an issue as we always have many bands available and would always put on the best event we can. But we understand that for some it maybe a choice not to attend and for other it may be out of their control not to attend.

So where does that leave things?

Well, the current announcement states that events WILL happen this summer. The government are now ACTIVELY working on a programme to determine what format they’ll have to follow. So with that in mind our current situation has to be ‘business as usual’ as we don’t want to get to June, find out we CAN go ahead and not have started any of the preparation. It usually takes a full year to pull off an event like this!

TICKETS – whatever happens, your tickets are safe. 2020 tickets have rolled over to 2021. If we’re forced to postpone or the restrictions mean that it’s an event that is not practical / logistically possible to stage, then all 2020 and 2021 tickets will roll over to 2022. So again, they’re safe. Our MID PRICE tickets usually end on MARCH 31st but with all this uncertainty we’re going to extend that deadline until MAY 31st. We will know by the end of May whether we’re in the Winter Gardens but with restricted capacity in some rooms or if it’s a full event, or if we’re outside, whether we have to put on a scaled back event etc. So now is the time to buy tickets and still save money knowing that in the worse case scenario, like other events, they will just roll over.

We’re trying to be optimistic and all signs are pointing to events post June 21st being able to operate. We just need to know what our obligations are and if that fits in with the Rebellion way of doing things.

Ultimately everyone’s safety is our main concern. The Winter Gardens have confirmed that they are “Good To Go!” They have been awarded the Visit England “We’re good to go” Industry Standard. This confirms that Winter Gardens Blackpool meets the Government and Public Health Guidance on COVID-19 measures being in place to ensure a safe visit for Guests. This is constantly being reviewed and if we have to change the set up internally with one way systems for entry / exit and moving around the building etc then we will obviously do so. There’s obviously a lot to consider and that’s why our social media posts have been quieter than usual as there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes to ensure that (if possible) we can put on the best event within whatever guidelines we are given. If you were to ask us NOW if we’d stick 10,000 in one venue the answer would obviously be no. But we’ve still got 5 months until Rebellion and things can change drastically in that time. The vaccine rollout is seemingly a gamechanger. There’s a chance that events take place where everyone is vaccinated and tested and Covid free. But that is a huge logistical undertaking and might not fit with our set up. We have a responsibility to our bands, staff, the people of Blackpool and to YOU, so regardless of what we can / can’t do we will also take a view based on the situation at the time (rather than now).

We always read your comments and appreciate that many people have strong views on such emotive subjects. We do take everything on board even if we don’t reply directly.

As it stands, the line up is as it is (we do have others ‘confirmed’ but we’re holding back on new announcements). Tickets are still on sale and discounted for a longer period. We’re hopeful that we can see as many of you as possible in August. It may become apparent before May what we’re doing but to avoid any doubt or speculation please be aware that anything is just a rumour until you hear it directly from us. We will always keep you updated with information with statements on here as and when we have something to communicate.

As ever, we’re thankful for your love and support over the years. It’s tough for everyone involved in Live Music but with your continued support we’ll all pull through. Stay safe!

CANCELLATION STATEMENT

CANCELLATION STATEMENT

REBELLION 2020 – CANCELLED

KEEP YOUR TICKETS SAFE!!

We are absolutely heartbroken to have to announce that it’s not possible for this year’s Rebellion to go ahead.

Please keep your WEEKEND TICKETS as they will get you in to Rebellion 2021.

This means that you'll get in at 2020 prices which is a huge discount from having to buy a 2021 ticket as they will be going up. All day tickets will be refunded.

We have been monitoring the situation and looking at all options and whilst we were genuinely very optimistic 2 months ago and honestly thought that this would all be done and dusted half a year ahead, it’s clear that as each day passes things are taking a lot longer to go back to any sense of ‘normal’. All the indications are that mass indoor gatherings will not take place for some time to come. Obviously ticket sales have ground to a halt since the lockdown so the conclusion we’ve come to is that even if the Winter Gardens is allowed to open in August, we won’t be able to put on the same standard of festival that you’ve all come to know and love. We are already losing key bands and there would be people that had bought tickets that either can’t travel (if overseas travel is still banned) or choose not to travel and it’s unfair on them too. Further, we’ve listened to bands, fans and crew and the feedback has tended to move from an optimistic and positive response with people wanting it to happen to many of us now reluctantly accepting that it’s not the best thing to do for our communities health and well-being. So for those of you that wanted us to cancel, we feel we’ve done the right thing but for those of you that wanted us to carry on you can rest assured that we looked at every available option on how long we could keep going before we had to make an awkward decision. Putting on a festival of this size is a huge undertaking and our lives have been on hold with regards to pre-production and ticket sales so to be honest we’re running out of time now to make this happen anyway.

REBELLION 2021 is BOOKED!! – AUGUST 5th – 8th

Next year is our 25th Anniversary and we are planning an incredibly special event. We aim to come back bigger and better and put on the party that we are all going to be craving. It is not possible to have the same line up so we will be starting again for 2021. However we’re mindful that many people keeping their tickets bought them off the back of this year’s line up so we will do our best to re-book as many bands as we can subject to availability, budget and our plans for 2021.

PLEASE HELP SUPPORT YOUR FESTIVAL

Cancelling this year’s event is obviously very damaging. We do not have ‘backers’, we do not have ‘sponsorship’ - Rebellion is a truly independent festival. The venue is not ours. Our only income is from ticket sales and out of that we must cover all our expenses which as you can imagine are massive for a festival this size. We’ve had good years and we’ve had bad years, but we’ve always bounced back from the losses and if we break even then we’ve lived to see another year! But this is unprecedented – we’ve had all the expenses from August to May but if we have to refund everyone’s money it will frankly be devastating. There is a number of ways that YOU can help REBELLION

  • KEEP HOLD OF YOUR TICKET AND USE IT FOR 2021 – You will be getting in to next year at this years prices! You can save up to £45 (depending on when you bought your ticket) by using this year’s ticket to get you in to next year’s event. This will help minimise the amount of refunds we need to do. So no need to buy another ticket. Keep your weekend ticket safe for 2020 and turn up to wristband exchange next year and you'll get in.
  • BUY A TICKET FOR 2021 NOW! – Tickets are ON SALE NOW for 2021, if you haven’t got a ticket for this year and weren’t coming, an early purchase of 2021 would really help. Our ‘EARLY BIRD’ prices last from TODAY until August 31st and we will be hitting our ‘mid price’ from Sept 1st onwards which is a lot earlier than usual. So now really is the best time to buy.
  • FREE ‘VIP’ PASSES - The first 300 tickets we sell for 2021 will go into a raffle and we will be drawing 50 winners that will receive a VIP PASS for 2021 which will get you all sorts of exclusive access and goodies.

We’ve already been overwhelmed by offers of support and generosity with suggestions to set up a funding page etc. We hope that things don’t get that bad. We are uncomfortable asking for anything as we know times are going to be hard for many. However, for those of you that are asking and are in a position to, you could DONATE YOUR 2020 WEEKEND TICKET. It would make a massive difference to the future of Rebellion and the type of festival and stages we can offer next year if you didn’t use your 2020 weekend ticket and just bought a new one. There will be a goodie bag to say THANKS for anyone that turns up to WRISTBAND EXCHANGE next year with BOTH weekend tickets showing that they had one they could have used but chose to donate that and support Rebellion by purchasing a new ticket. We certainly don’t expect this and know many can’t afford to but for the many people that have contacted offering ways to support, this is probably the easiest and fairest.

For those of you that neither want to come next year or are not in a position financially to support us then of course REFUNDS are available and the information regarding how that works can be found in detail on our WEBSITE – www.rebellionfestivals.com.

We know that many of you go to many different festivals and gigs. We don’t view any other event as a ‘rival’ event to us. We see all live events as one big family that feeds each other with our passion for music. We would urge any of you that also have tickets for other shows that are cancelled to try and avoid refunds if possible. This virus is going to have such a devastating impact on the economy and on businesses and individuals and one of the worse industries to be hit will be the entertainment industry and especially LIVE MUSIC. Many of us in this industry are getting NO SUPPORT from the government. There is no ‘grant’ if you don’t have rateable high street premises, there’s no furloughing if we’re not on PAYE and there’s no support for being ‘self-employed’ if you take money out of the business only when it’s in profit via dividends and there’s no insurance that is going to cover us for cancelling. REBELLION certainly isn’t covered by an insurance policy for this. We’re taking a hit. So many promoters, agents and bands will slip through the net regarding support. Unlike sports events which get huge revenues from TV sponsors, Live Music will be hit terribly. Our only ‘sponsors’ are the people that buy tickets and come to the gigs. Please support all our colleagues at other festivals and shows if you can by minimising REFUND REQUESTS and getting back out and buying tickets for future events as soon as we’re all allowed out again.

ONE LAST THING – Rebellion 2020 is cancelled. Tickets are valid for 2021. That will not change. But what IF the lockdown is lifted by August and many of you choose to come to Blackpool as your Hotels are booked? It would be crazy to not have some event on. Therefore, we’ve kept the dates saved with the Winter Gardens for the possibility of a scaled back event if there was any possible way we could pull this off. This might not be something we can make a decision on until much nearer the time and the type of event, the amount of days, stages and if some of it could be outdoor etc would all have to be decided and turned around quickly. If this were possible it would be a completely separate ticketed event and not be a REBELLION FESTIVAL but an alternative show within the parameters of what would be allowed to happen legally and safely. It’s a long shot and has no bearing on the decision to cancel this year which has been made.

This has been the hardest thing to ever write or publish. Both emotionally and also logistically. We’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes to work out all the procedures for a cancellation. It’s actually a lot harder to cancel a festival than it is to put one on! So, for everyone that has been moaning about us taking too long to cancel, it’s not as simple as you think! We have many ticket outlets, many price points for the tickets and so lots to get in place before we can just say ‘it’s off’. We also need to let the venue, 350 bands and agents know and all our staff, crew and suppliers as it’s not right that the first they hear about it is via Facebook. There’s also massive implications for doing this and despite what you all think we’re a small family team who’s experience is in putting punk gigs on. Therefore, making sure that everything is legal, compliant and transparent also takes time. So - we did listen to your views and that helped us make the decision to cancel. We’ve since been putting everything in place to make this a smooth process. If there’s anything you guys aren’t happy with or think we could / should have done better or differently then please go easy – we’re in unchartered territory and we’re doing the very best we can.

For now, all we ask is that you all remain safe and healthy and we hope to see as many of you as possible in 2021. Your support as ever is appreciated and never taken for granted. We love you.

Team Rebellion xx

COVID-19 STATEMENT

COVID-19 STATEMENT

REBELLION COVID-19 STATEMENT & DISCOUNTED TICKETS

It is understandable during this unprecedented time that many of you have questions regarding what events will take place this year. Therefore we thought we’d update you and put your minds at rest on our current position.

REBELLION 2020 has every intention of taking place as usual this year. We are 5 months away from doors opening and as we are all seeing, things are developing and changing on a daily basis. We expect the situation in August to be different to today. So with that in mind, it’s BUSINESS AS USUAL as far as we are concerned.

That said, we are not complacent and can assure you that our priority is your safety and the health and well being of everyone who attends Rebellion (fans, bands, staff, crew) and the people of the local community. We will be following the government guidelines and be working closely with the Winter Gardens and the local council to ensure that any decisions made are based on the best advice possible.

At the moment we have a full line up with no cancelations. However, if this does change and any bands decide to pull out / cancel tours we already have a standby list of bands of all sizes to fill the slots. This is no different to any year. A festival of our size with over 300 bands sometimes have bands that pull for a variety of reasons, so we have replacements available at all times. We always endeavour to bring you the best mix of bands possible due to availability. Rebellion 2020 line up is fantastic, tickets are already ahead of last year and we expect it to be very busy.

We all love live music and like to support our punk scene and there will be lots of people that will be very frustrated that they’ve not been able to get out to shows for a few months. So we expect August to be VERY BUSY as people will be wanting to make up for not going out. We obviously have a capacity limit at the Winter Gardens and so we’d still advise you to buy your tickets in advance in case it sells out.

However, we’re mindful that people are waiting to see what happens before committing to travelling. So with that in mind we’d like to EXTEND our DISCOUNTED TICKET OFFER for another month. Tickets were due to go up on APRIL 1st to the full price. We will now discount our weekend tickets until MAY 1st to give those of you that are wanting to see how this all plays out a chance to take advantage of the discount.

We are busy holding production meetings for this year as usual and are working through a number of issues to make this year even better. Including addressing the horrendous heat problems that we experienced last year. We will make a further statement about that in due course.

Unfortunately we don’t have the resources to answer all you questions individually or respond to all the social media posts. So we hope that this statement will clarify our position until further notice.

We will not be drawn on speculation as it’s clear that NO-ONE knows how this will develop. We will make any further statements IF anything changes or if there’s anything DEFINITE to report. We don’t have time to pontificate with the internet ‘experts’! We’re too busy trying to run your favourite festival!

So, to be clear, the current situation is that Rebellion, the bands and the Winter Gardens fully expect Rebellion 2020 to take place, so it’s business as usual. We are monitoring the situation as safety is our top priority. We are making contingency plans for all eventualities. Should anything change then we will make a further statement.

In the meantime, please follow the advice and look after each other. Remember most of the advice isn’t to protect YOU it’s to protect others. We don’t want to burden the NHS unnecessarily so please use common sense and do the best for your community. There’s a lot more serious things than a punk festival to worry about at the moment. But hey, this is our little get together every year and our FAMILY and we’ll do all we can to pull together and make REBELLION 2020 the best we can.

Love TEAM REBELLION x

2019 - THANK YOU!

2019 - THANK YOU!

What a year! Judging by the feedback we've had it seems that you all enjoyed it as much as we did and everyone had another fantastic year. There are so many people to thank that make Rebellion so special but ultimately without the festival goers coming through the door there would be no event. So our first shout out has to be to all our amazing Rebellion family who come year on year and create such a great atmosphere. Big thanks to those of you that have been before and have come back - we hope you had a great time and to those new comers - WELCOME and thanks for being part of our festival. Remember - it's your weekend and you made it brilliat - so thanks!

We'd also like to thank all the bands / artists that appeared. It was another diverse line-up covering acts from all over the world and with the Rebellion Introducing Stage proving yet again that there's some amazing bands out there if you just look.

We know it was unbearably HOT in the venue. Our staff and crew felt it too - being in there for LONG shifts. This is something that we'll be discussing with the Winter Gardens for next year. You may have noticed some building work going on at the back of the Winter Gardens. We're hoping that the new conference centre will be available next year so there might be a few changes again to how we utilise the space that we have available. There could be some exciting opportunities to tweak things. As ever, we'll do our best to bring you the best 4 days of fun a punk can have!

Finally, thanks to all the staff, crew, security (who are amazing at keeping everyone safe and understand how to partake in a Punk Festival) and of course the Winter Gardens - such a wonderful venue for our little punk rock party! Let's do it again next year!!! We're taking a couple of weeks out to get ourselves fit and healthy and then we'll be back with our 'wants list' hassling all the bands that we hope to get for 2020. We've already confirmed a few bands - SHAM 69, GBH, THE DICKIES, TOXIC REASONS, with many more to come as usual.

Early bird tickets are already on sale for those that want to save a few quid and you can pay by instalments from 1st Sept too. Details on the website. Thanks again x

ARCHIVE - PIL - CONFIRMED FOR 2018

ARCHIVE - PIL - CONFIRMED FOR 2018

It’s hard to name a more iconic and influential post-punk band on modern music than John Lydon’s post-Pistols group Public Image Limited (PiL), who are today confirmed to perform at Rebellion Festival in 2018 for the first time since 2012. Since their formation following the Sex Pistols collapse in 1978, Public Image Limited have crafted some of the most forward thinking sounds to emerge from the post-punk wreckage and continue to do so to this day. Their set is guaranteed to thrill and inspire and it’s an honour to have them back.

2017 - THANK YOU

2017 - THANK YOU

Thanks everyone!! We all thought that last year would be hard to top but judging by all the feedback we've had and all the comments on Facebook it looks like everyone had another fantastic year. The people that create the atmosphere over the weekend are YOU the festival goers. So our first shout out has to be to all our amazing Rebellion family who come year on year and create this fantastic vibe that means that those new to Rebellion get to enjoy the weekend. Those of you that have been before and have come back - we hope you had a great time and finally to those new comers - WELCOME and thanks for being part of our festival. Remember - it's your weekend and you made it brilliant!

We'd also like to thank all the bands / artists that appeared. It was another diverse line-up that on paper might not have looked like a usual Rebellion but clearly worked as this was our second busiest year ever and everyone we've spoken to have said how great it is that they can see such a range of amazing bands.

ARCHIVE 2017: PENNYWISE - Confirmed for 2017

ARCHIVE 2017: PENNYWISE - Confirmed for 2017

Melodic Californian Punk band PENNYWISE are confirmed for 2017. They've only played once before (2010) and that was when singer Jim Lindberg was on a 2 year break, so it's great that he's now back with the band and the Rebellion faithful can catch the man who wrote the songs singing them! They are one of the most successful independent Punk bands of all time but remain true to the punk ethos and regularly play and support independent festivals and club shows. We can't wait to welcome them to the Rebellion family.

ARCHIVE 2017: BAD RELIGION - Thursday Headliners

ARCHIVE 2017: BAD RELIGION - Thursday Headliners

Thursday night sees BAD RELIGION return to the Empress Ballroom. It will be 7 years since they first played the festival and are making a welcome return. Probably one of the most respected US Punk bands, due in part to their close association with Epitaph and all of the bands they spawned. It's easy for us Brits to lump them in with the likes of 'modern' American punk but it's worth bearing in mind that Bad Religion started in late 1979! One of the longest surviving bands who have an amazing back catalogue and still continue to be relevant to this day.

ARCHIVE 2017: SLAVES - Friday night headliners!

ARCHIVE 2017: SLAVES - Friday night headliners!

SLAVES are confirmed for Friday night. Day tickets are already on sale. We're really excited about this booking. Whilst we will always respect our roots and have the classic bands playing Rebellion, we feel it's important to bring new blood through and no-one has taken the Punk attitude by the scruff of the neck and dragged it kicking and screaming into the 21st Century like these guys. We've seen them live and can guarantee that the Ballroom will go off!

“'Four years ago I was watching Rancid headline rebellion and Slaves hadn't even played a festival yet,” states guitarist Laurie Vincent. “Now to be back but to headline it ourselves is beyond our wildest dreams. Can't wait to see you there!”

Thanks to everyone that made this year so special! This was such a special year for us, celebrating 20 years of putting on weekend Punk festivals and with the addition of the outdoor stage and 100 bands more than usual it went way beyond our expectations and the thanks and love we've received from punters, bands and everyone involved has been truly humbling. We'd like to firstly thank the festival goers who create the most amazing atmosphere. It's your weekend and you made it brilliant! Everyone was well behaved and so many people that were new to Rebellion this year have contacted us saying what a friendly and welcoming festival it is - so thanks to you for keeping the Rebellion Family strong. We'd also like to thank all the bands / artists that appeared. ARCHIVE 2016 - STIFF LITTLE FINGERS - Confirmed

ARCHIVE 2016 - STIFF LITTLE FINGERS - Confirmed

Stiff Little Fingers were formed in 1977 in Belfast, Ireland. Along with the likes of the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Buzzcocks, Undertones, Sham 69, Stranglers, et al – Stiff Little Fingers were at the forefront of the punk movement. They wrote initially about their own lives, growing up at the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland, in songs like “Suspect Device” and “Wasted Life”. In November of ’77, they released those two songs on their own Rigid Digits label, and sent a copy to BBC Radio One DJ John Peel, who started playing it every night. They soon established themselves as a driving force for the emerging Punk scene and REBELLION are proud that they are playing the 20th Anniversary of Rebellion.
