Thanks to everyone that made this years event such a success. Cheers to the bands, the crew, the venue and most of all thanks to all of you that attended – it’s your support and enthusiasm that makes all the stress and struggle worthwhile! The feedback from this year has been amazing. It’s not possible to please everyone all of the time but the amount of positive comments we’ve had has been overwhelming. We’ll continue to do our best for you and are already looking forward to next year. Stick the dates in your diary. It’s the second weekend of August next year, so the festival will run from THURSDAY 8th – SUNDAY 11th AUGUST (2013). Early Bird tickets will go on sale from SEPT 1st. More info to follow…..
We’re finally able to confirm our THURSDAY night Headliner for the Empress and we’re really excited to be able to announce that it will be the legendary BUZZCOCKS. Not only massively influential on the Punk scene, they’re also considered the elder statesmen of the Manchester scene and their catchy tunes will fill the Empress with a singalong atmosphere and we can’t wait!!
We’re excited to confirm that Social Distortion will be making their debut at REBELLION. Another band (like Rancid) that we’ve wanted for ages and that you keep asking for – well 2012 is the year we deliver! Expect to see Mike Ness and the gang blast their way through 30 years of classic songs, both old and new. In fact, if you haven’t got their latest album “Hard Times & Nursery Rhymes” we recommend you pick it up as it sounds amazing and is just as relevent as anything the South Cali Punk legends have ever done.
We are excited to confirm that Anti Pasti have chosen REBELLION FESTIVALS as their first gig in 17 years! Their 1981 debut album “The Last Call” is a certified classic from the second wave of punk. Whilst the band were undoubtedly popular back in the day (they sold enough copies of their single “Six Guns” to secure a number 1 slot in the Indie Charts), there are many of us that didn’t get to see them. So we’re more than happy that they’re back doing it again. Altogether now “No Maggie Thatcher and No Government!”
Public Image Limited (PiL) are confirmed as the HEADLINE band for Saturday night in the Empress Ballroom. After fronting the Sex PistolsJohn Lydon formed post-punk originators Public Image Ltd in 1978. “PiL” continued until 1992 with an ever-changing line-up and unique sound which saw them fuse Rock, Pop, Dance, Folk, Ballet and Dub. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative bands of all time their music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 Singles and 5 UK Top 20 Albums. Lydon will be joined by former PiL members Lu Edmonds (guitar), Bruce Smith (drums) along with 2009 recruit Scott Firth (bass).
A packed Empress Ballroom will be the perfect venue to see Public Image play this year and there will be a warm welcome from the Rebellion family for Lydon, the man who managed to create the punk movement and post punk movement in an astonishing few years of creativity and originality and remains one of the most intoxicating characters and musically awake musicians out there.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone from Rebellion HQ
We hope you all had a good holiday. It’s going to be a busy month for us as we are near to confirming a few more big names – so watch this space! Don’t forget the line up so far which is already shaping up to be one of the best years ever.
A date for your diary is DECEMBER 8th where we will be taking Rebellion to Birmingham for a 1 day fest. Cock Sparrer are already confirmed. We’ll be anouncing more details next week.
We’re really excited to confirm that BOW WOW WOW will be appearing at next years festival. Expect African and Latin infused rhythms from one of the front runners of the NEW WAVE scene. Famously put together by Malcolm McLaren, the band soon established their own identity with their unique sound. Singer Annabella Lwin was just 14 years old when the band started – can’t wait to see her perform in 2012 – A warm Rebellion welcome is assured – All together “C30,C60,C90 GO!”. Check out their BIOG here: www.bowwowwow.org/bio_mid.html
We’re really pleased to confirm that the legendary ONLY ONES will be appearing at next years REBELLION. Can’t wait to hear their songs played in front of the Rebellion faithful. Unique, catchy and perfectly formed songs – Peter Perrett has such an amazing voice. New to the Rebellion family, this is another band that have never played before.
We’ve also added over 20 more bands in the last week. Check out the BANDS page for a full list.
